PASTORAL CARE

“Who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” 2 Corinthians 1:4

BENEVOLENCE

The Village benevolence ministry exists to help those in need to understand God’s principles by supplying emotional, spiritual, and physical aid to our church family and within our community. We distribute donated funds and donated items to help those that God sends to us for assistance.

VISITATION

The visitation program allows Village to minister to those in homes, extended care facilities, hospitals, and jail. Anyone needing encouragement, comfort or a sense of belonging will benefit from the Visitation Ministry as they are reminded individuals that they are not forgotten by their church family.

DIVORCE CARE

At Divorce Care, you will find a friendly, caring group of people who will walk alongside you through one of life’s most difficult experiences. Don’t go through separation or divorce alone; come find help and healing.

WIDOW CARE

The Bible is replete with commands to take care of widows, especially widows within the church. In Acts 6, certain widows were being neglected in the church, so deacons were elected to fix the problem. The deacons at Village have developed a system of meeting the needs of widows. Each widows is assigned to a deacon, who is responsible for helping the widow in any way. COUNSELING

Donna Simmons, MS is a native of Northwest FL and has lived in the area of South Walton for 10 years.  She obtained her BA in Psychology from Ashford University and her MS in Counseling & Psychology from Troy University. In her practice, Donna seeks to provide a relaxed, supportive environment that encourages self-exploration and personal and spiritual growth. She believes a vital aspect of health and contentment is seeking a relationship with God and His will in one’s life.  A Christian for most of her life, Donna continues to seek the wisdom and guidance of the Lord in all aspects of life, including her profession as a counselor.

As a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern she has helped many through divorce recovery, premarital and marriage counseling, depression, substance abuse, eating disorders Bipolar disorder and various personal and relational issues. Some of Donna’s post-graduate training includes:  Divorce Recovery; PREPARE/ENRICH Premarital and Marriage Enrichment Counseling; Gottman Method Couples Therapy – Level I; Sexual Addiction; Attachments; PAIRS Relationship Skills Training; Assertiveness Training; Interpersonal Neurobiology; & Professional Life Coaching. She is currently a member of the National Board of Certified Counselors, the American Association of Christian Counselors and International Christian Coaching Association.

Donna has offices at both Village Baptist Church and South Walton Medical Group. She also accepts many insurance plans. Please call 850-366-3629 for appointment times and scheduling. (Some evening appointments available.)

Karen M. Abercrombie, LMHC, LMFT is a vital part of the Village Ministry Team and works as a counselor. She has been in practice as a Christian Counselor since 1986, specializing in marriage, family, and adolescent services. She has a deep and abiding respect for God’s Word that defines and directs her counseling method.

Mrs. Abercrombie holds a Master’s Degree in Counseling and Human Services from Troy State University and is licensed in both Florida and Alabama. She has served the Church as the Director of Women’s Ministries and has been a Core Leader in Community Bible Study. As a faculty member of BCI, she teaches Biblical Counseling with Couples and Families I and II and conducts marriage seminars, women’s retreats, and parent training throughout the U.S.

Mrs. Abercrombie is the co-author of CHRISTIAN SHRINKS Answer ALL Your Questions . . . (No Couch Required) and has written numerous articles on Christian and family life.
