In 1976 a small group of believers experienced the call of God to plant a church, a stones throw from the Gulf of Mexico in a place called Destin Florida.
At first the church met in each others homes. Then for a time Village met at Destin Elementary School.
Worship was God honoring and His Word served as the foundation around which all the Churches activities grew. God honored the new congregation’s upward focus with growth both spiritually and numerically. The nearby Gulf of Mexico served as a convenient baptismal for many of those who met the Lord because of what He was doing through the people of Village Baptist Church.
In late 1976 plans were drawn for what was to become the first Worship Center for the people of Village. A parcel of the coastal desert out in the midst of nowhere was acquired. Members with their own hands cleared and molded the land to make it ready for construction. Members spent many an evening and their Saturdays building that first building with their own labor. They did this out of an abiding love and commitment to Jesus Christ.
God honored their love and their faith.
Today Village Baptist Church stands just off the beach, dominating the skyline in what has become the center of a thriving coastal community. Matthew Boulevard, the road constructed by the congregation when the first church building was built, is now the main road used to get to the Gulf beaches from U.S. Highway 98.
Village has vibrant ministries impacting its local community and the world for Jesus Christ. Thousands of people from all over the world come to worship with the Village home congregation. Many families have moved to the local area to be part of what God is doing at Village.
We have all been changed for eternity by what God has done among us. We are excited to be part of the future He has planned for us. We look forward to meeting you as you come to visit from afar or nearby. We hope that we may become part of your family as we all walk together on the great journey.
