I have just returned from a week in a RV. My family and I traveled to the west to rest and relax in the great national parks of Colorado and Wyoming. Our first night in the RV was spent in the Arapaho National Forest just outside of Denver. Our elevation was around 8800 feet. The next day we crossed into the Rocky Mountain National Park and continued to climbed higher and higher. After reaching an altitude of 11,770 feet we stopped and walked around an observation point (winded I might add).
On top of this mountain the snow was falling, the drifts were high, the air was thIn and the view was incredible. The panorama was astonishing. We could see so far. The perspective was very different because now we were looking down from a great vantage point. If we had never climbed that mountain, gone beyond the tree line and arrived in the alpine tundra we would have never seen the beauty of that place from such an awesome perspective.
The Bible has many things to say about mountains. Mountains are a metaphor in reaching new heights as a people of God. Isaiah wrote: “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths” Isaiah 2: 3 NIV. It is when we reach the mount of God, that is, arrive at new heights with God that we are able to see things from His perspective and truly learn His ways.
As you live today, whether at sea level or at 11,000 feet, my prayer for you is that you will climbed to the heights with the Lord!
