Village Baptist Church then . . .
In 1976, a small group of believers obeyed the call of God to plant a church only a stone’s throw from the Gulf of Mexico in Destin, Florida. Prior to building, the church body met in members’ homes and later worshiped at Destin Elementary School. Worship was God honoring and His Word served as the foundation for all of the church’s activities. Out of the founding member’s abiding love and commitment to Jesus Christ, God rewarded the congregation’s upward focus with growth, both numerically and spiritually. So in late 1976, a parcel of desert-like land on the coast was acquired and plans were drawn for what would become the first worship center for the people of Village. With their own hands, the members cleared and graded the land to prepare for construction. They spent many of their evenings and Saturdays building the worship center while the nearby Gulf of Mexico served as a baptismal for many who met the Lord through the people of Village.
Village Baptist Church now . . .
Village, still just a stone’s throw from the Gulf of Mexico, dominates the skyline in what has become a thriving coastal community. The considerable additions to the Village campus stand on Matthew Boulevard. Originally constructed by the founders for access to the church, Matthew Boulevard now also serves as a main road for gaining access to the gulf beach.
While the architecture of the Village campus has changed dramatically, the church remains God honoring and His Word serves as the foundation for all of the church’s activities. Village has many thriving ministries that impact the local community and the world in the name of Jesus Christ. Thousands of people from all over the world come to Destin each year and worship with us, and many families have moved to the Destin area to be a part of what God is doing at Village.
We have all been changed for eternity by God’s blessings at Village Baptist Church. We are always excited about the future plans He has for us, too. If you are visiting Village today, from near or far, we welcome you most graciously and hope you will visit often. If you are considering making Village your church home, then we are overjoyed about our future walk together on this great journey.
