Dr. Steven A. Davies

Dr. Steven A. Davies has served as Senior Pastor of Village Baptist Church since August of 1992. Under his guidance, the church has experienced abundant growth in regular attendants and memberships.

Before coming to Destin, Davies earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Shorter University in 1982 and a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1985. Davies then served as pastor of Ball Ground First Baptist in Georgia from 1985-1991 and, in 2007, Davies earned a Doctor of Ministry from Luther Rice University.

Dr. Davies is married to Beverly and together they have four children and one grandchild. They have been married for 32 years and enjoy raising their family on the beautiful Emerald Coast beach. Dr. Davies also enjoys running and RV trips.

Matt

Rev. Matt Plunk
Worship Pastor

Matt joined Village Baptist Church in 2013 as Worship Pastor. He earned a Bachelor of Music in Church Music at Union University in 1989, a Master of Music in Vocal Performance at Austin Peay State University in 2010, and in between degrees, Matt took classes at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Four churches in Tennessee that Matt has served in are; FBC, Parsons, Latham’s Chapel Baptist in Medina, Liberty Grove Baptist Church in Jackson, and Springfield Baptist in Springfield. Matt and his wife, Grace, have a 23 year old niece, Kali, who has joined them in Destin and at Village. Matt, Grace, and Kali all serve in the Worship Ministry at Village.

Rev. Sean Walker
Student Pastor

Sean was born and raised in Niceville, Florida where his grandfather was a church pastor for more than 30 years. Toward the end of high school, Sean felt a calling in vocational ministry which was affirmed by his church. He graduated from Northwest Florida State College and completed his Masters of Divinity in May 2014 at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Sean and his wife, Bethany, served together at First Baptist Orlando before coming to Village Baptist Church in 2013. They will celebrate their two-year anniversary this fall.

Dan

Rev. Dan Alvers
Teaching Pastor

Dan graduated with degrees in Theology from the Baptist College of Florida and the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He is the Teaching Pastor, leading the Men’s Ministry Bible Studies and the Connect Ministry—a program designed to improve communications with visitors and attendees during their visit on campus. Dan and his wife, Kim, have a son named, Gunner, and they are expecting their second child in the fall.

Vickey

Vicky Curtis
Preschool Minister

Vicky joined the Village Baptist Church staff in 2002 and is responsible for establishing the Village Preschool Ministry programs. Since 2004, this ministry has served over 500 children and their families. Upon earning a BA in Business at the University of Kentucky in 1979, Vicky’s entrepreneurial skill and drive led her to a successful career in sales and training management positions—most notably, the telecommunications company now known as Worldcom. Vicky is married to Robert and they have one son, Carter.

Mickey

Mickey Campbell

Mickey has served as the Village Baptist Church Administrator since 2008 and leads the Fishers of Men adult Bible study class along with various service projects throughout the community. Prior to his move to Destin, Mickey served as vice president and president of two different distribution companies in Atlanta, GA for 28 years. Mickey earned his degree at Jacksonville State University in 1970. Mickey and his wife, Peggy, have three daughters; Valerie, Allyson, and Mandy, and two grandchildren, Kara and Brayden.

Linda

Linda Blackwood

Linda served in the Village Baptist Church financial and administration office before leaving in 2010 to assist in the opening of the Destin LifeWay Christian Store. After two years as assistant manager of the LifeWay Store, Linda returned in 2012 to Village as Assistant to the Senior Pastor. She also serves in the Village Missions programs and events. Linda and her husband, Ray, moved to Destin from the Memphis area in 2000 with their two daughters, Amanda and Ashley. They have one granddaughter named Sophie.

Wanda

Wanda Collins

Wanda worked for the Okaloosa County School District as an Administrative Assistant for over 26 years before joining the Village Baptist Church staff in 2013. She has been a church member since 1984 and also sings in the Village Celebration Choir. Wanda and her husband, Ronnie, have been married for 42 years and they have lived in Destin since 1972. They have two daughters, Michelle and Heather, and 5 grandchildren; Cameron, Collin, Caleb, Zackery, and Morgan.

Tracie

Tracie Maltezo

Tracie has been a freelance Graphic Designer and Writer since 1997. She joined the Village Baptist Church Publications Ministry in 2012 and became a Village member in 2013. Tracie graduated from Gadsden State University in Computer Science in 1987 and began a career in advertising as the Accounts Manager at Alabama Magazine and Mobile Bay Monthly. For a period of 6 years, Tracie was a stay-at-home mom when she began freelancing. Some of her work includes; Editor of The Seaside Times, GoldMine Magazine Designer and Proof Reader, SABA Books Editor, SS Marketing Managing Designer, and Managing Editor of Bush Publishing. Tracie has two daughters, Savannah and Tarrah.

Melanie, a native of Northwest Florida, joined Village Baptist Church Media in 2011. She earned a Bachelor’s in Broadcast Communications at Southeastern University in Lakeland, FL and has worked in video production, directing, and editing for companies such as: Food Network—Restaurant Impossible, Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN), New Jersey Youth Convention, Mabe Production and Installation (MPI) and Southeastern University’s annual National Leadership Forum.
